Green Building in Singapore

Ahmad Haziq 1504334B

The first of its kind, National library is the first green building to be built in Singapore. The design of the building provides a sense of arrival to the visitors as it has open sky spaces and a plaza. It gives visitors some natural ventilation. Sky bridges along every lever  allows easy travel to the opposite buildings. The building was oriented away from the east-west sun and also has sunshades , which reduces the heat gain from the sun, therefore help maintain a cool temperature in the building. Also, light shelves are these things that take in light from the outside into the building, thus saving more energy. Sky gardens are also featured on the 5th and 10th floor of the building, which provides low ambient temperature and the escalators built are motion sensor, which use less energy then normal escalators. Therefore, National Library is a great example of a green building as it is sustainable, environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
